The role

Windmill Microlending is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Senior Marketing Specialist to support our national marketing efforts. In this 1-year contract role, you’ll help expand Windmill’s reach among newcomers to Canada and inspire engagement from donors and partners.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, you'll lead content creation across social media, blogs, email, and advertising; manage online community engagement; and collaborate on national campaigns. You’ll also coordinate testimonials, photo/video shoots, and develop collateral using tools like Canva and AI. Strong writing, project management, and digital fluency are essential.

Key responsibilities

Brand and content development (50%)

  • Write and edit clear, compelling marketing content including blogs, website articles, ad copy, and email campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Design Specialist to produce branded ads, templates, and marketing collateral.
  • Create and adapt visual content using Canva for social media, internal templates, and light design needs.
  • Ensure all content and materials follow Windmill’s brand guidelines and visual identity standards.
  • Coordinate and conduct client interviews for testimonials, photo shoots, and video storytelling projects.
  • Liaise with external vendors, including photographers and video production partners, to support content development.
  • Leverage AI tools and digital workflows to increase efficiency, creativity, and scalability across marketing activities.
  • Support team-wide initiatives and additional projects as assigned by the Marketing Manager or National Director.

Project management (25%)

  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Development, Partnerships) to deliver marketing materials that meet campaign and marketing needs.
  • Liaise with external vendors to meet marketing deliverables.
  • Coordinate French translations with internal team members and external vendors.
  • Support the planning and execution of national digital and print advertising campaigns.

Social media management (25%)

  • Advise on and execute a social media strategy.
  • Develop, write, and schedule engaging social media content (including reels and stories) that increases awareness and supports client and donor acquisition goals.
  • Manage Windmill’s social media accounts, including proactive community management—monitoring and responding to comments, messages, and inquiries.
  • Explore and recommend emerging social media platforms, influencers, trends, and awareness opportunities that align with marketing objectives.
  • Track and report on marketing performance metrics

Ideal candidate

You bring proven experience in developing and managing engaging marketing content across social media, digital platforms, and campaigns with a sharp focus on brand alignment, performance, and impact. Above all, you are inspired by Windmill’s mission. You are motivated by the opportunity to use your marketing skills to elevate the voices of immigrants and refugees, connect clients to life-changing support, and help grow a community of champions for Windmill’s work across Canada.
